In the 1940s, they became the best team in Europe, winning two World Championships in 1947 and 1949. After the Soviet Union joined international hockey in the 1950s, the Czechoslovaks often competed with Sweden and Canada for silver and bronze medals, sometimes even beating the Soviets. In total, they won the gold medal six times.
Because of the split of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993, the team was replaced by the Czech and Slovak national teams. The International Ice Hockey Federation recognized the Czech national team as the successor, keeping it in the top group, while the Slovak team started in the lowest level and moved up to the elite division by 1996.

The Czechoslovakia men's national ice hockey team played their first game on April 24, 1920, in Antwerp, losing to Canada. Their last game was on December 19, 1992, in Moscow, where they beat Switzerland.
The team had some big wins over the years, such as beating Yugoslavia, Belgium, East Germany, and Japan by large scores. However, they also had a big loss to Canada in 1924.
Sadly, in 1948, a plane crash happened when six players were traveling to the UK for games. They were on a charter flight from Paris to London when the crash occurred.
