A tennis player competing at the Wimbledon Championships.

Darian King (born 26 April 1992 in Bridgetown) is a Barbadian tennis player. He reached his highest singles ranking of world No. 106 on 8 May 2017, according to the Association of Tennis Professionals. His best doubles ranking was No. 156, which he achieved on 21 October 2019.

King has played for Barbados in important competitions like the Davis Cup and the 2016 Olympics. His first appearance in a Grand Slam tournament was at the 2017 US Open, where he faced fourth seed Alexander Zverev and lost in straight sets.

Personal life

Darian King was born on April 26, 1992, in Bridgetown, Barbados, where he still lives today. His father played field hockey, and his mother played netball. Sadly, his mother passed away in 2010. Darian has three siblings—two brothers and one sister. One of his brothers, Christopher, is his current head coach. He is good friends with several tennis players, including Frances Tiafoe, Dustin Brown, Noah Rubin, Taylor Townsend, and Sloane Stephens. His favorite athlete is Usain Bolt.

Career

Darian King started playing tennis when he was eight years old. He looked up to players like Gaël Monfils and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. In 2010, he played in big junior tournaments and did well, ending with a high ranking of 47 in both singles and doubles.

King turned professional in 2010 at seventeen. He chose to play professionally instead of going to college. Over the years, he won many matches and improved his rankings. In 2017, he reached his highest ranking of 106 in the world. He also played in the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2017 US Open. After 2017, his rankings slowly went down, but he kept playing and had some success in doubles matches too. In 2020, he had surgery and took a break until early 2021.

King also played for the Barbadian Davis Cup team, winning many matches in both singles and doubles.

Challenger and Futures finals

Darian King has competed in many tennis matches in smaller tournaments called Challenger and Futures events. In singles matches, he played in 32 finals and won 18 of them. In doubles matches, he reached 33 finals and won 22 times.
