Fruela II of Asturias
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Fruela II was a king who ruled during the early 10th century. He was the king of Asturias from 910 to 924 and then became king of León from 924 to 925. His parents were Alfonso III of Asturias and Jimena.
In 910, Fruela and two of his brothers removed their father, Alfonso, from power. They split the kingdom into three parts. Fruela, being the youngest, received the original area of Asturias. His brother Ordoño took control of Galicia, and their oldest brother García ruled León. Even though Fruela called himself king of Asturias, it seems his position was less important than that of the king of León.
History
Fruela II was the king of Asturias from 910 to 924 and then became king of León until 925. His job was to strengthen the region known as Castile and to keep its leaders under control.
Fruela married two times. First, he married Nunilo Jimena, the daughter of a king from Navarre. Later, he married Urraca, the daughter of a leader from Tudela. He had three sons named Alfonso, Ramiro, and Ordoño, but none of them became king after him.
Fruela worked well with his brother Ordoño. Together, they supported the Reconquista. When Ordoño passed away in 924, the leaders chose Fruela to be the new king. However, Fruela was not very popular, and some people thought he took the position unfairly. He faced many challenges during his short time as king and ruled for only fourteen months before passing away in August 925. After his death, there were many people who wanted to lead, including his brother Ramiro and the sons of his other brother Ordoño II.
