Gombak River

The Gombak River (Malay: Sungai Gombak) is a river which flows through Selangor and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. It is a smaller river that joins a bigger river called the Klang River.

The place where the Gombak River meets the Klang River is very important because it is where the city of Kuala Lumpur got its name. Long ago, this river was called Sungai Lumpur, and the city’s name comes from that old name.

History

Malay communities lived near where the Gombak River meets the Klang River since the 1850s. The riverbanks were important for growing food and gathering resources from the jungle. The rivers also helped villagers travel and communicate with each other.
