The Government of the Punjab (Punjabi/Urdu: حکومت پنجاب, romanized: Hukūmat-e-Panjāb) is the legal authority for the Pakistani province of Punjab, with its capital in Lahore. It oversees 41 districts and its powers and structure come from the national constitution. The government has three main parts: legislative, executive, and judicial.

The Punjab Assembly is the main law-making group and chooses the chief minister to head the government. The chief minister leads the executive and a team called the cabinet, helped by the chief secretary, who is the top administrative officer. The Governor, chosen by the federal government, has a ceremonial role as the head of province. The Lahore High Court, led by the Chief Justice, is the highest court in the province.

Punjab is the most crowded part of Pakistan and home to many people, including the Punjabis. It borders Sindh to the south, Balochistan to the south-west, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the north-west. It also shares a border with India to the east. The main languages spoken there are Punjabi and Urdu. The name "Punjab" means "land of the five rivers," referring to the Beas, Ravi, Sutlej, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers.

Departments

The Punjab government in Pakistan has 41 departments to help manage the province. Each department is led by a minister who is elected and a secretary who is a civil servant. They all report to the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary, who are the main leaders.

Punjab also has special groups and departments that report directly to the leaders. These include important boards and authorities that focus on areas like technology, education, and public safety. The government works to manage its large population by setting up offices in different areas, such as Multan, to better serve the people.
