The Icelandic handball team had a tough time getting to the 1992 Summer Olympics. Because of the Yugoslavian civil war and the Yugoslavian team not being allowed to compete, Iceland got a spot in the Barcelona Games very late. With little time to prepare, the team was not expected to do well, but they made it all the way to the semi-finals. They finished in fourth place. Kristján Arason was part of the Icelandic team.
