A memorial in London dedicated to John Heminge and Henry Condell, two important figures from history.

John Heminges was an English actor who lived from 1566 to 1630. He was part of an acting group called the King's Men, which created shows for important people. This group was where William Shakespeare wrote many of his famous plays.

Heminings worked closely with another actor named Henry Condell. Together, they helped put together a big book called the First Folio in 1623. This book collected all of Shakespeare's plays in one place, which was very important for keeping his work safe for future generations.

Besides acting, Heminges also helped manage the money for the King's Men. His work made sure the group could keep creating wonderful plays and performances for people to enjoy.

Life

John Heminges was born on 25 November 1566 in Droitwich, Worcestershire, and was sent to London at age twelve to work for a grocer. He married Rebecca Knell, a widow, in 1588, and they had many children.

By 1593, Heminges had started acting with a theater group and later joined the famous King's Men, the same group William Shakespeare worked with. Heminges stayed with this group until he passed away. He was also involved with the Grocers' Company and helped measure coal for the city of London. He and his friend Henry Condell helped collect and publish Shakespeare's plays in a book called the First Folio after Shakespeare died.

Work

John Heminges was an actor known for performing in plays by Ben Jonson and William Shakespeare. He acted in plays like Sejanus and Every Man in His Humour, often sharing the stage with Shakespeare. There are hints that he may have played famous roles, though proof is scarce.

Besides acting, Heminges helped manage the King's Men theater group. He often received payments for the group and acted as a link between the actors and officials. He even owned land near the famous Globe Theatre. He also helped Shakespeare when he bought a house in Blackfriars in 1613.
