La Polar

Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience

La Polar is the fourth largest retail company in Chile, behind Falabella, Paris S.A and Ripley S.A. It has 43 stores, with 38 located in Chile and 5 in Colombia. The stores offer a wide variety of products, including clothing, accessories, sporting goods, beauty products, gifts, items for babies, electronics, furniture, and household goods. In addition to selling products, La Polar also provides services such as credit cards, insurance, and extended warranties for durable products.

Renegotiated customers' debt without consent

In June 2011, Chile’s securities regulator stopped trading for Empresas La Polar SA while they looked into the company. This happened after La Polar said they needed to set aside an extra $430 million because of problems in how they handled store credit for customers.
