Lebanon at the 2016 Summer Olympics

Adapted from Wikipedia Β· Discoverer experience

Lebanon competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 to August 21. This was Lebanon's 17th time taking part in the Summer Olympics. They missed the 1956 games in Melbourne because of the Suez Crisis.

The Lebanese Olympic Committee sent nine athletes, four men and five women, to compete in seven different sports. Two athletes, Mona Shaito and Ray Bassil, had also competed in the London 2012 Olympics. Some athletes, like Ray Bassil and Richard Merjan, got to compete because of their recent good performances.

Nacif Elias, a judoka who grew up in Brazil, carried Lebanon's flag during the opening ceremony. Unfortunately, Lebanon did not win an Olympic medal since 1980, when Hassan Bchara won a bronze medal in wrestling.
