Life sciences is the study of living things. It includes animals, plants, microorganisms, and even humans. This field is one of the two big groups of natural science. The other group is physical science, which studies non-living matter. Biology is the main science that studies life, and life sciences are its smaller parts.

Some life sciences look at one type of living thing. For example, zoology studies animals, and botany studies plants. Other life sciences study things that all living things share, like anatomy and genetics. Some life sciences study very small parts of cells, like molecular biology and biochemistry. Others study bigger parts, like ecology and immunology. Neuroscience even studies the mind.

Discoveries in life sciences help improve our lives. They help us understand health better, grow more food, and create medicines. These discoveries have helped us learn about diseases and how to stay healthy.

Basic life science branches

Main article: Outline of biology § Branches

Biology is the science that studies life. It has many parts, like anatomy, which looks at the shapes and functions of plants, animals, and other living things. Other parts include botany (the study of plants), zoology (the study of animals), microbiology (the study of tiny living things), and ecology (how living things interact with each other and their environment). These areas help us understand how all living things work and fit together in the world.

Each part of biology focuses on different questions, like how cells work, how animals behave, or how diseases affect living things. By studying these parts, scientists can learn more about life and how to keep it healthy.

Applied life science branches and derived concepts

Life sciences include many areas of study that help us understand living things and improve our lives. For example, agriculture looks at growing plants and raising animals. Biotechnology involves changing living things to make useful products. Food science studies how to make and keep food safe and tasty.

Other areas like biomedical science focus on health and medicine. Environmental health looks at how our surroundings affect our health. Conservation biology works to protect plants and animals and their homes. Each of these fields uses science to solve problems and help people and the planet.
