North China Electric Power University (NCEPU; 华北电力大学) is a public university in Beijing, China. It is affiliated with the Ministry of Education and supported by several important organizations, including the China Electricity Council and twelve large state-owned power companies. This makes it a special and important school in China.

The university is part of two big plans to improve education: Project 211 and the Double First-Class Construction. These plans help the university grow and become even better.

NCEPU focuses on teaching and learning about technology, especially in areas related to power and energy. The main campus is in Beijing, but there is also a second campus in Baoding, Hebei Province.

The university has about 3,000 teachers and staff. Each year, it teaches around 20,000 undergraduate students and 7,000 graduate students. This makes it a large and busy place where many young people learn important skills for the future.

History

The university began in 1958 as the Beijing Institute of Electric Power. In 1970, it moved to Baoding in Hebei province and was renamed the North China Institute of Electric Power. After merging with the Beijing Power Engineering and Electronics Institute in 1995, it took its current name. In 2006, the main campus returned to Beijing, though it still has a branch in Baoding.

Located near Badaling Expressway in Beijing’s Changping District, the university sits in a beautiful area. With over 40 years of history, it helps students learn engineering, management, economics, and social sciences. Today, more than 8,500 students attend, including over 600 graduates and doctoral students.

Administration

North China Electric Power University has many departments and schools. Some of its departments include Mathematical and Physics Science, Electric Power Engineering, and Computer Science and Technology. The university also has schools such as Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Renewable Energy, and Economics and Management.

The university offers many programs for students, including doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees. It also has a large library with over one million books and welcomes students from around the world.

Interscholastic relations

The university works together with universities in over 20 countries and areas, including Britain, the United States, France, Russia, Japan, and Taiwan. Students can have the chance to study at places like Illinois Tech, Purdue, UC Berkeley, the University of Bath, and the University of Strathclyde.

The university is also a founding member of the Cooperation Consortium of Beijing High Technology Universities, an important group of universities in northern China.
