Pasco–Hernando State College (PHSC) is a public college in Florida with campuses in Pasco and Hernando counties. The college was established in 1967 by the Florida Legislature and opened to students in the fall of 1972. It is part of the Florida College System and has additional campuses in Brooksville, Dade City, New Port Richey, Spring Hill, and Wesley Chapel. In 2014, the school changed its name from Pasco-Hernando Community College to Pasco–Hernando State College. PHSC offers many programs and courses to help students learn new skills and prepare for future careers.

History

Pasco–Hernando State College started in 1967 in New Port Richey, Florida by the Florida Legislature and opened its doors to students in fall of 1972. It became part of the Florida College System and had campuses in Brooksville, Dade City, and Spring Hill.

In 2014, the college changed its name to Pasco–Hernando State College because it would start offering certain university-level programs. A new campus opened that year in Wesley Chapel, called the Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch, thanks to a donation by the Porter family. Later updates include opening an Institute for Nursing and Allied Health Advancement and a Workforce Development Center.

Academics

Pasco–Hernando State College offers many different degree programs, including Bachelor’s degrees, Associate degrees, and certificates. High school students can also take classes there. Some popular fields of study include Liberal Arts, Health Services, and Nursing. In the fall of 2024, the college had 9,886 students.

The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to give Associate and Bachelor’s degrees.

Athletics

Pasco–Hernando State College (PHSC) has a team called the Bobcats. They play in seven different sports and are part of two groups: the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA). The team colors are black and gold.

The Bobcats compete in several sports for men and women. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, and cross country. Women's sports include cross country, flag football, soccer, softball, and volleyball.
