Qatar at the Olympics

Qatar has taken part in 11 Summer Olympic Games but has never joined the Winter Olympic Games. The country's first Olympic gold medal came when Fares El-Bakh won in weightlifting at the 2020 Summer Olympics, followed by another gold medal for Mutaz Essa Barshim in men's high jump. In total, Qatar has earned two silver medals and four bronze medals.

Before the 2008 Summer Olympics, Qatar was one of only three countries, along with Saudi Arabia and Brunei, that had never sent a female athlete to the Olympic Games. In 2010, the International Olympic Committee said it would encourage these countries to let women participate. Soon after, the Qatar Olympic Committee said it hoped to send up to four female athletes in shooting and fencing to the 2012 London Summer Olympics, and it did include four female athletes in its team.

The Qatar Olympic Committee was created in 1979 and was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1980.
