Saudi Arabia at the 2022 Winter Olympics

Saudi Arabia took part in the 2022 Winter Olympics held in Beijing, China, from February 4 to February 20. This was the first time the country joined the Winter Olympics. The team had just one member, a male alpine skier named Fayik Abdi.
Fayik Abdi had the honor of carrying Saudi Arabia’s flag during the opening ceremony. During the closing ceremony, a volunteer carried the flag for the country. It was an exciting moment as Saudi Arabia began its journey in the winter sports world.

Background
In early 2021, the Saudi Winter Sports Federation asked for skiers and snowboarders who might represent the country at the Olympics. About 100 people applied from around the world, including those with Saudi heritage living outside the country. Eight athletes were chosen to train with the goal of qualifying for the Olympic games.

Saudi Arabia qualified to send one male alpine skier to the 2022 Winter Olympics. Two skiers met the needed standards, but Fayik Abdi was chosen to represent the country.
