Shaw Mayer's water rat

Shaw Mayer's water rat (Baiyankamys shawmayeri) is a special kind of animal that lives in the mountains of Papua New Guinea. This animal is a type of rodent and is known for being partly able to live in water, which is why it is called semiaquatic. It belongs to a group of animals called the Muridae family.
This rat was discovered in a place where not many animals can survive, showing how unique and strong it is. Scientists gave it the name Baiyankamys shawmayeri to honor the person who found it. This rat is called kuypep kuykuy-sek in the Kalam language of Papua New Guinea.
