Tretyakovsky Proyezd
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Tretyakovsky Proyezd, also known as Tretyakov Drive, is a short and special street in Kitai-gorod in Moscow. It is famous for its beautiful boutiques and shops that sell many luxury goods, making it one of the most expensive shopping places in the whole world.
The old-looking archway that leads to Theatre Drive was designed by the architect Alexander Kaminsky in 1871. This special project was paid for by Kaminsky's brother-in-law, Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov. Pavel Tretyakov was also the person who started the Tretyakov Gallery, a very important art place.
The Tretyakovs were unhappy because there was a problem on Nikolskaya Street. Because of this, they decided to buy some land and bring back an old path from the Middle Ages that went from Nikolskaya Street to Theatre Drive, right across from where the old Kitai-gorod wall used to be.
