It is one of the world's biggest makers of telenovelas, along with other famous companies like TelevisaUnivision, TV Azteca, Telemundo, TV Globo, Caracol Televisión, RCN Televisión, ABS-CBN, GMA Network, and Channel 3. These shows have entertained many people around the world.
History
Venevisión began as a small television station in Venezuela in 1953. It was officially started in 1961 by Diego Cisneros. At first, the station broadcast live shows because they did not have a way to record programs.
In the early years, Venevisión made agreements with the American network ABC to share programs and technical help. This helped the station grow and reach more viewers across Venezuela. Over time, Venevisión introduced color broadcasts, started showing programs for 24 hours a week, and later every day. The station became known for producing popular shows, especially telenovelas, and for broadcasting events like the Miss Venezuela pageant.
Today, Venevisión is one of Venezuela's largest television networks and has been on the air for many years.
March
Venevisión uses a special march made by Aníbal de Abreu in 1964 as its theme. The march is often played when the network shares important news, and it has also become popular on social media for the same purpose.
International broadcasts
Many of Venevisión's shows are available in other countries on Ve Plus TV, Venevisión Plus, and ViendoMovies, a cable channel owned by Venevisión. Other channels, like Univision in the United States and Televisa in Mexico, also air some of Venevisión's programs.
Political position
On April 11, 2002, Venevisión and other private networks in Venezuela showed a speech by the country's leader, Chávez, at the same time as people were being shot during a protest before an attempted takeover of the government. The next day, a government official announced that Chávez had not stepped down and that there had been an attempted takeover.
After the election in 2006, Venevisión was less opposed to Chávez. During that election, Venevisión spent most of its time covering Chávez's views and less on the opposition. Some people thought this change was to keep their broadcasting license by not arguing with Chávez. Criticism of Venevisión grew when the government did not renew another station's license in 2007. Some believed Venevisión would gain from this because the other station was its biggest competitor. The owner of Venevisión said he expected only a small increase in advertising money after considering inflation.
