History

YETI was started by Roy and Ryan Seiders in 2006. Their father, Roger Seiders, had created a special kind of fishing rod material. Ryan finished school at Texas A&M University in 1996, and Roy graduated from Texas Tech University in 2000.

In 2012, a big company called Cortec Group bought a large part of YETI. YETI planned to become a public company in 2016 but decided not to at that time because of market conditions. They finally became a public company in 2018. YETI also opened its first store in Austin, Texas in 2017 and now has many stores across the United States.

In 2020, YETI asked people to return some mugs that could spill hot liquid. In 2024, YETI bought Mystery Ranch, a company in Bozeman, Montana that makes special backpacks.

Products

YETI makes special products for people who love hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. They also make items for beachgoers and water lovers. The company has supported professional outdoorsmen and shows about hunting and fishing.

Coolers

YETI’s Tundra coolers can be locked with two padlocks, so they are safe from bears. They also make soft coolers called the “Hopper” series. Their most expensive cooler holds 82 gallons and costs $1,300. YETI worked with a factory in the Philippines to make a very strong cooler that keeps ice longer.

Other products

YETI sells drinkware, clothes, bags, and other outdoor gear. Their drinkware, called the “Rambler” line, comes in sizes from 10 ounces to one gallon. They also make an ice bucket called the “YETI Tank”.

YETI sells its products at many stores such as Academy Sports and Outdoors, Bass Pro Shops, Amazon Marketplace, West Marine, Cabela's, REI, Dicks Sporting Goods, and North 40 Outfitters.

The company's sales grew quickly, from $147.7 million in 2015 to $468.9 million in 2016. Their earnings also rose, from $14.2 million in 2015 to $72.2 million in 2016. In 2017, about 30% of their money came directly from customers who bought online or from their own stores.

Accolades

Some magazines have praised Yeti products. Outside magazine called the Yeti Rambler "the best mug ever made." Field & Stream said that when Yeti released the Base Camp Chair, it showed the company’s focus on comfort. Business Insider called Yeti products "a status symbol in the United States."
