Aeneas was a brave hero from very old stories. He came from the city of Troy. His father was a Trojan prince named Anchises, and his mother was the goddess Aphrodite, also called Venus in Roman stories.

People remember Aeneas because he is very important in Roman stories, especially in a famous book called the Aeneid written by a poet named Virgil. In this story, Aeneas is said to be the ancestor of the founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus. Because of this, he is seen as the first true hero of Rome.
