Alagoas

Alagoas is one of the 27 states in Brazil. It is found in the eastern part of the Northeast Region. It is next to Pernambuco to the north, Sergipe to the south, Bahia to the southwest, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The capital city is Maceió, which has beautiful beaches.

Alagoas is the second smallest state in Brazil. It is known for growing sugarcane, making sugar, and finding natural gas. People also visit for fun things to do near the ocean.

The name Alagoas comes from a Latin word meaning "lake." This is because there are many lakes along the coast near Maceió. The area has green hills, farms, and some parts of the Atlantic Forest. Farther inland, there is a dry place called the Sertão with thorny plants.

Alagoas is special because it is the home of two important leaders who became the first presidents of Brazil: Deodoro da Fonseca and Floriano Peixoto. Many famous people come from this state, too.

The beaches in Alagoas are very popular. Visitors like to relax, swim, and enjoy the sun. The state also has good roads and a new airport to help people travel easily.
