The American Battle Monuments Commission
The American Battle Monuments Commission, or ABMC, is a special group that takes care of special places and memories for people who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. These places are mostly far from the United States. The ABMC was started in 1968 and became a part of the U.S. government in 1975.
There are 26 beautiful cemeteries and 31 special monuments that the ABMC looks after. Over 140,000 brave men and women are buried in these cemeteries. The ABMC also remembers more than 94,000 people who are missing, lost, or buried at sea. Their names are written on special walls and monuments.
The main job of the ABMC is to keep these special places safe and beautiful. They work very hard to make sure these sites are well-kept and respected. The ABMC also has a list of names online so people can learn more about these heroes.
The ABMC works with many different groups to protect these important places. They also teach people about the history and importance of these sites. By doing this, they make sure that the stories of these brave people are never forgotten.
The ABMC has many cemeteries and monuments all around the world. Some are in France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and even in the Philippines. Each of these places tells a part of the story of America’s brave service members.
The ABMC’s work helps keep history alive. They make sure that people today and in the future can visit these places and remember those who served their country.
