The Arafura Sea
The Arafura Sea is a beautiful part of the ocean. It lies between two big lands: Australia to the south and Western New Guinea, which is part of Indonesia, to the north. This sea is a special place full of many kinds of sea life.
People use the Arafura Sea for travel and trade because it connects nearby countries. It is also a great place for fishing, especially for shrimp and fish like barramundi and grouper. The sea is important to the people who live near it because of its natural beauty and rich resources.
The Arafura Sea is about 1,694 kilometres long and 605 kilometres wide. Most of it is not very deep, with depths between 50 and 80 metres. Long ago, when sea levels were lower, this sea was part of a land bridge that helped people move from Asia to Australia.
