Berkhamsted Castle

Berkhamsted Castle is a very old and interesting building in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. It was built a long time ago after the Norman conquest of England by people from Normandy. The castle was made to help control a very important road between London and the Midlands.

The castle was first looked after by Robert of Mortain, who was the half-brother of William the Conqueror. It had special earth walls and a special area with deer for people to enjoy. Over many years, many important kings and queens stayed there.

Today, the castle is very old and broken, but people can still visit it. It is taken care of by English Heritage, and many visitors come to see this special place and learn about its long history. The castle is a quiet spot where you can imagine what life was like many hundreds of years ago.
