The Central Eastern Alps
The Central Eastern Alps are a big, beautiful group of mountains in Europe. They are mostly in Austria, but they also stretch into Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy, and Slovenia. These mountains are part of the larger Eastern Alps and make up the main chain that runs through this part of the world.
People often call this place the Austrian Central Alps. It is one of the seven main natural areas of Austria. The Central Eastern Alps are special because they have some of the tallest mountains in the Eastern Alps. The highest peak here is Grossglockner, which stands very high above the ground—at about 12,461 feet! This mountain is a popular place for hikers and climbers to visit.
The Central Eastern Alps are found between the Northern Limestone Alps and the Southern Limestone Alps. They are made of different kinds of rocks, which makes the landscape very interesting. The mountains mainly cover Austria, starting near Lake Como and the Bernina Range in Switzerland. They run along the shore of Liechtenstein and go east to the Hochwechsel in Styria, Austria. The valleys of the Inn, Salzach, and Enns rivers form the northern edge, while the Drau river marks the southern edge.
These mountains are a major landscape region in Austria. They are part of the Eastern Alps, which are split into different sections, including the Northern Alps, the Greywacke zone, the Central Alps, and the Southern Alps. The Central Alps are a wonderful place to explore, with tall peaks and beautiful valleys.
