The Charlotte Hornets are a basketball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. They play in the National Basketball Association, one of the biggest basketball leagues in the world. The Hornets play their home games at the Spectrum Center, a modern arena that fans love.
The Charlotte Hornets started in 1988. They were owned by George Shinn, a local businessman who wanted to bring professional basketball to Charlotte. The team was named the Hornets after a fan contest. The name comes from a famous quote by a British general who called Charlotte "a hornet's nest of rebellion" during a big historical event.
Over the years, the team went through some changes. In 2002, the Hornets moved to New Orleans and became the New Orleans Hornets. But Charlotte fans missed their team, so the NBA brought basketball back to Charlotte in 2004 as the Charlotte Bobcats. In 2014, the team became the Hornets again, bringing back the old name and colors.
One of the most famous players in Hornets history is Michael Jordan. He is a basketball legend who bought part of the team in 2006 and helped guide it. Jordan is known for his amazing skills and is one of the greatest players ever.
Today, the Hornets continue to play exciting games. They have a fun mascot named Hugo The Hornet who dances and entertains fans. The team's cheerleaders, called the Charlotte Honey Bees, also add to the fun at every game.
Fans can watch the Hornets on television or listen on the radio. The games are broadcast on Bally Sports Southeast with Eric Collins and Dell Curry providing commentary. On the radio, WFNZ-FM broadcasts all the action.
The Hornets are a big part of Charlotte and bring joy to many fans with their exciting basketball and fun team events.
