Christmas
Christmas is a happy celebration that many people enjoy around the world. It happens once every year on December 25. This special day is about the birth of Jesus Christ. Millions of people in many countries celebrate it, even if they are not from the same religion.
People love Christmas because it brings families together. There are many fun traditions, like putting up Christmas trees and turning on bright Christmas lights. Families also give each other presents, which is called gift-giving. Music is important too, with people singing Christmas music and going carolling, which means singing songs together outside homes.
Some people think of Santa Claus during Christmas. He is a friendly figure who brings gifts to children. Another name for him is Saint Nicholas. Children often leave out cookies and milk for him, hoping he will visit.
Christmas has many names in different places. In old England, it was called midwinter or Yule. In France, it is called Noel, meaning “birth.” In some Slavic countries, it is known as Koleda. No matter what it is called, Christmas is a time for joy, kindness, and spending time with loved ones.
