Cockburn Town is the capital of the Turks and Caicos Islands. It sits on most of Grand Turk Island, the biggest island in the Turks Islands archipelago. The town is a special place full of history and old buildings.

People started Cockburn Town in 1681 to collect salt. It became the capital in 1766 and has been an important place ever since. The town is named after Francis Cockburn, a former Governor of the Bahamas.

One of the fun places to visit is the Turks & Caicos National Museum. It is in an old house on Front Street and tells stories about the islands’ past. You can learn about old shipwrecks, the Space Race, and the Lucayan people who lived there long ago.

Grand Turk has warm weather most of the year, but it can rain more from September to December. The town has a nice school called HJ Robinson High School where children learn and grow.
