Columbia is the capital city of South Carolina. It is the second-largest city in the state and is very important for the government and education of South Carolina.

The city is named after Christopher Columbus, the explorer who sailed to the New World. People sometimes call Columbia "Soda City" because its name sounds like "Cola."

One of the most famous buildings in Columbia is the South Carolina State House. This is where the state's government meets. The city is also home to the University of South Carolina, the largest public university in the state.

Columbia has many parks and green spaces to enjoy. Finlay Park is a popular spot for festivals and events. Riverbanks Zoo is a fun place to see animals and learn about nature.

The city has a mild climate with warm summers and cool winters. It is located near many natural areas, including the Congaree River, which is great for outdoor activities.
