Welcome to Cusco!
Cusco is a beautiful city in Peru. It sits in the green, rolling Andes Mountains near the Sacred Valley. The city is close to two calm rivers called the Huatanay and Urubamba. Many families and friends live here, making it a lively place.
Long ago, Cusco was the heart of the Inca Empire. People built amazing stone walls and big buildings. Today, visitors come from all over the world to see these old wonders. One of the most famous spots is Machu Picchu, a magical mountain city far away. It is one of the seven modern wonders of the world.
The city has a special feeling. Its streets are lined with old stones and colorful flowers. People here speak two languages: Spanish and Quechua, the language of the Inca people. In June, everyone celebrates the Inti Raymi or Festival of the Sun, honoring the bright sun that warms the land.
Cusco is also a place where nature is kind. The weather is usually mild and sunny. Winters are cool and dry, while summers are warmer with gentle rains. The city rests at about 3,400 meters (11,200 feet) above sea level, so it feels a little higher than other places — but it’s very beautiful up there!
People in Cusco love to share their traditions through food, art, and stories. The city is a wonderful place to explore, learn, and make new friends.
