Dayton is a friendly city in Ohio. It is the sixth-most populous city in the state and lies in the beautiful Miami Valley region. Dayton is close to two other cities, Cincinnati and Columbus, making it a great place to explore.
A City of Firsts
Dayton was founded in 1796 by settlers who traveled up the Great Miami River. The city was named after Jonathan Dayton, an important person who helped write the U.S. Constitution. One of Dayton’s biggest claims to fame is being the home of the Wright brothers. These two brothers built the world’s first successful motor-operated airplane right here in Dayton!
Fun and Places to Visit
Today, Dayton is a busy city with many things to see and do. Visit the amazing National Museum of the United States Air Force, which has lots of exciting airplanes and space planes. You can also explore the Dayton Art Institute, where you can see beautiful paintings and sculptures.
Dayton has lovely parks, like Five Rivers MetroPark, where you can walk, bike, or even camp out. The city also hosts the big Vectren Dayton Air Show every year, which is a wonderful show of colorful planes flying in the sky.

Living in Dayton means you have many schools to choose from, like the University of Dayton and Wright State University. The city has good hospitals, such as Kettering Health Network, and many places to shop and eat.
Dayton’s transportation makes it easy to get around. The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority runs friendly buses, and the Dayton International Airport offers flights to many places. Big highways like Interstate 75 also connect Dayton to other cities.
