Columbus is the biggest city in the state of Ohio. It is also the state’s capital, which means it is where important government work happens. Lots of people live here—almost 906,000! That makes it one of the bigger cities in the United States.

A City With Many Stories

Columbus has a long history. It began with Native American people living near the Scioto River. The city was officially started in 1812 and was named after the famous explorer Christopher Columbus. Over the years, it grew from a small town into a busy city full of jobs, schools, and fun places to visit.

Things to See and Do

Today, Columbus is a place where new ideas and technology grow. It is known for high technology, innovation, and making things like artificial intelligence, robotics, and special kinds of computer chips. The city has many cool spots, such as museums, theaters, and beautiful parks. Families love visiting places like the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and the science center called COSI.

Sports and Fun

Columbus has teams that many people cheer for! The Columbus Blue Jackets play hockey, and the Columbus Crew play soccer. Young athletes grow up dreaming of playing for these teams, just like the famous Ohio State Buckeyes teams that many fans follow.

A Place to Learn

Columbus is also a place for learning. The Ohio State University is one of the largest universities in the country. Many students come here to study and make new friends. There are also libraries and schools for everyone, including the Columbus Metropolitan Library, which has lots of books and fun activities.

Sister Cities

Columbus has friends all around the world! It has sister cities in places like Genoa, Italy; Hefei, China; and Ahmedabad, India. These friendships help people in Columbus learn about other cultures and make the city even more interesting.

Columbus is a wonderful place to live, visit, and grow up. With its mix of history, technology, nature, and fun, it is a city that many people love.
