The Beautiful Earthrise Photo
Earthrise is a very special picture of our planet. It was taken from the Moon by astronaut William Anders on December 24, 1968. He was part of the Apollo 8 mission, the first time people flew around the Moon.
When Anders and his crewmates looked out, they saw Earth rising over the dark Moon. Anders used a special camera called a Hasselblad to take the picture. It shows Earth as a bright blue marble against the black sky. Many people think this photo helped us understand how beautiful and important our planet is.
After the mission, the photo became very famous. It was used on a stamp by the U.S. Postal Service and even inspired songs. The picture reminds us to care for our Earth.
If someone were on the Moon, they might see Earth rising in the sky too. The Moon moves a little, so Earth would appear to rise and change shape, just like our Moon does from Earth.
