East India Company
Adapted from Wikipedia Β· Explorer experience
The East India Company was a big trading group from England that started in 1600. They traded things like spices, tea, and cotton with places such as India and Southeast Asia.
At first, the company was just one of many traders. But over time, it grew very big and powerful. It controlled large parts of India and helped shape the history of the country. Many people know about the East India Company because it played a huge role in making Britain a major power in world trade.
The company began with explorers like Francis Drake, who sailed to faraway lands and brought back valuable goods. Later, more traders joined, and the company set up many trading posts. They traded with many countries and even built their own ships.
Eventually, the company faced problems and the British government took over its lands in 1858. The East India Company closed down in 1874, but it left a lasting mark on the world. Its story shows how trade can change countries and connect people across the oceans.
Today, we remember the East India Company for its role in bringing new goods to Britain and for the ways it changed life in India and other parts of Asia.
