Enggano Island

Enggano Island, also called Pulau Enggano, is a quiet island far from big cities. It is about 114 kilometres (71 miles) southwest of Sumatra, in Indonesia. This small island is one of the 92 special outlying islands of Indonesia.

The island has forests and beautiful beaches. It is a peaceful place where nature grows well. People there love their land and traditions, making the island unique.

Enggano Island is about 29 kilometres (18 miles) long and 14 kilometres (8.7 miles) wide. It has six villages along its north-east coast. The villages are Kayaapu, Kaana, Malakoni, Apoho, Meok, and Banjarsari. Ferries help people travel from places like Kahayapu and Malakoni to nearby towns.

The island has its own special language called the Enggano language. This makes it very interesting for scientists who study languages.

Enggano Island is also home to many special birds that live only there, like the Enggano scops owl and the Enggano imperial pigeon. Because of these unique birds, the island is very important for nature lovers and has been named an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International.
