Welcome to Indonesia!

Indonesia is a big, beautiful country made up of many islands. It is located in Southeast Asia and Oceania, between the Indian and Pacific oceans. With over 17,000 islands, it is the world’s largest archipelagic state! Some of the main islands are Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, and parts of Borneo and New Guinea.

A Land of Many People

Indonesia is home to lots of people—over 280 million! That makes it the fourth most populous country in the world. Most people live on the island of Java, especially in the busy capital city, Jakarta. The country has many different ethnic groups, and people speak many languages. The official language is Indonesian, but you might hear other languages too!

Rich Culture and Traditions

Indonesia’s culture is very rich and different across the islands. People love music, dance, and special clothes. Traditional arts like wayang puppet shows and batik cloth are famous around the world. Food in Indonesia is delicious and varies a lot. You’ll find yummy dishes like nasi goreng (fried rice) and sate (grilled meat on sticks). Each island has its own special recipes to enjoy.

Nature and Wildlife

Indonesia’s islands have amazing nature! There are tall mountains, beautiful lakes, and wide rivers. The highest point is Puncak Jaya in New Guinea. Lake Toba in Sumatra is a huge, beautiful lake. The country also has many animals and plants that live only there. Some places are protected so animals and plants can stay safe.

Indonesia is a wonderful place full of islands, friendly people, and exciting cultures. Whether you’re interested in nature, food, or traditions, there is always something new to discover!
