Welcome to Erfurt

Erfurt is a special city in Germany. It is the biggest city in a place called Thuringia. About 216,000 people live there. Erfurt sits near a river called the Gera, and it is close to beautiful places like the Thuringian Forest.

Old and New Erfurt

Erfurt has very old parts called the old town. Many buildings there are from a long time ago, like the Merchants' Bridge, which has little houses on it. There is also the tall Erfurt Cathedral and a special synagogue, which is one of the oldest in Europe. These old places are so important that they are part of a special group called a UNESCO World Heritage area.

Famous People and History

Erfurt has been important for a very long time. It was first talked about in the year 742 when a man named Saint Boniface started a church there. Over the years, Erfurt became a busy place for trading and learning. Today, it is known for its university, which started in 1379. That makes it one of the oldest universities in Germany!

Some famous people from Erfurt include Martin Luther, who studied there, and Meister Eckhart, a wise teacher who lived there too.

Erfurt is a lovely place to visit. You can walk around the old town, see the old bridges and churches, and enjoy the markets. The city has many museums where you can learn about its history. There are also parks and green spaces to explore.

Erfurt is easy to reach by train, and it has buses and trams to help you get around. The city is also a place where people from many countries come to visit, making it a friendly and exciting place to be!
