Welcome to Erfurt
Erfurt is a special city in Germany. It is the biggest city in a place called Thuringia. About 216,000 people live there. Erfurt sits near a river called the Gera, and it is close to beautiful places like the Thuringian Forest.
Old and New Erfurt
Erfurt has very old parts called the old town. Many buildings there are from a long time ago, like the Merchants' Bridge, which has little houses on it. There is also the tall Erfurt Cathedral and a special synagogue, which is one of the oldest in Europe. These old places are so important that they are part of a special group called a UNESCO World Heritage area.

Erfurt has been important for a very long time. It was first talked about in the year 742 when a man named Saint Boniface started a church there. Over the years, Erfurt became a busy place for trading and learning. Today, it is known for its university, which started in 1379. That makes it one of the oldest universities in Germany!
Some famous people from Erfurt include Martin Luther, who studied there, and Meister Eckhart, a wise teacher who lived there too.
