Who is a Farrier?

A farrier is a special worker who helps keep horses healthy by taking care of their feet. Farriers know all about horses' hooves and how to cut and balance them so they stay in good shape. Sometimes, they put on tiny metal shoes to protect the hooves.

What Do Farriers Do?

Farriers use tools to trim the hooves and sometimes put on shoes. This helps the horse walk comfortably and stay safe. They also know a lot about horse legs, so they can help if a hoof is hurt or needs special care.

A Long History

People have been putting protective covers on horse hooves for a very long time. Long ago, blacksmiths did this work, but later farriers became a special job. Today, both men and women can be farriers, and they help horses all over the world.

Tools of a Farrier

Farriers use many tools to care for hooves. Some important tools include:

  • Anvil and hammer – for shaping horseshoes
  • Hoof knife – for trimming the hoof
  • Rasp – for smoothing the hoof

These tools help farriers do their job well and keep horses happy.
