Fiorello La Guardia

Fiorello La Guardia was a friendly and energetic leader who helped make New York City a better place. He was born in Greenwich Village, New York City, to a family of Italian immigrants. His parents moved around a lot, living in places like the Dakota Territory and the Arizona Territory.

La Guardia became the mayor of New York City from 1934 to 1946. During his time as mayor, he worked hard to help people, especially during tough times like the Great Depression. He helped build parks, playgrounds, and airports. He also made sure people had safe places to live.

La Guardia loved music and helped start a special school for arts called Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. Today, many places are named after him, like LaGuardia Airport. He is remembered for being fair and working with people from all different backgrounds to make New York City a wonderful place to live.
