France at the Olympics
The modern Olympic Games started thanks to a French historian named Pierre de Coubertin. France has been part of every Olympic Games, both Summer and Winter, except maybe the 1904 Games.
French athletes have won many medals in sports like fencing, cycling, and judo. In the Winter Olympics, France does well in alpine skiing and biathlon.
Some French athletes are very famous in Olympic history. Biathlete Martin Fourcade has the most Olympic gold medals for France with six. Judoka Teddy Riner and biathlete Quentin Fillon Maillet each have five gold medals.
French cities have been important for the Olympic Games. In 1894, Pierre de Coubertin helped start the modern Olympic Games again in Paris. Paris first hosted the Summer Olympics in 1900. The city will host the Games again in Paris in 2024 Summer Olympics. France has also hosted the Winter Olympics in Chamonix, Grenoble, and Albertville. With the 2030 Winter Olympics coming to the French Alps, France will have hosted the Olympic Games seven times.
France has won medals in many sports, from cycling to swimming. The nation is proud of its athletes and the history they have made in the Olympic Games.
