Pierre de Coubertin

Pierre de Coubertin was a French man who loved sports and learning. He was born on 1 January 1863 in Paris, the capital of France. His family was very old and well-known in France.

Pierre went to school where he learned about old times, like ancient Greece and Rome. He studied many things and later went to a special school in Paris.

Pierre cared a lot about sports. He believed sports were important for children to learn and grow. He visited schools in other countries to see how they taught sports. One school he visited was Rugby School in England.

Pierre is most famous for helping start the modern Olympic Games. He thought it would be wonderful to bring people together from all over the world to compete in friendly games. In 1894, he helped plan the first modern Olympics, which were held in Athens, Greece, in 1896.

Because of his work, two special awards are named after him: the Pierre de Coubertin World Trophy and the Pierre de Coubertin Medal. People give these awards to those who show great sportsmanship and spirit.

Pierre passed away on 2 September 1937, but he is remembered for making the Olympic Games a tradition that continues today.
