Gary is a city in Lake County, Indiana, in the United States. It is the eleventh-most populous city in Indiana, with lots of people living there. Gary is very close to Lake Michigan, just a short drive from downtown Chicago.
Why Gary is Special
Gary was named after a man named Elbert Henry Gary, who helped start a big company called United States Steel. The city was built in 1906 to help workers at the big steel mill called Gary Works. This mill is one of the largest in all of North America!

Gary has a rich history with music and culture. It is famous for being the home of the wonderful Jackson family, including talented singers like Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. Today, Gary has its own airport called the Gary/Chicago International Airport and a fun baseball team named the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
