George Peter Nissen was an American gymnast and inventor. He is best known for creating the modern trampoline.

Nissen was born on February 3, 1914, in Blairstown, Iowa. He loved gymnastics and won several championships at the University of Iowa.

He got the idea for the trampoline after watching circus performers bounce on spring beds. With his coach, Larry Griswold, he built the first trampoline in 1934. This fun invention let people jump safely and has been used ever since.

Thanks to Nissen, trampolining became a popular sport. It is now enjoyed in schools, gyms, and even at home. His idea brought joy and exercise to many people around the world.
