Guiana Space Centre
The Guiana Space Centre is a special place where rockets are sent into space. It is located near the town of Kourou in French Guiana, a part of France in South America. This place is sometimes called Europe's Spaceport because many important space missions start here.
The Guiana Space Centre has been sending rockets into space since 1968. It is a great spot for launches because it is close to the equator and has open sea to the east and north. This helps rockets use less fuel and keeps people safe if something goes wrong.
Many people and companies work together at the Guiana Space Centre. The French space agency, called CNES, manages the land. The European Space Agency owns the launch pads and buildings. A company named Arianespace plans the launches and gets the rockets ready. Different rockets, like the Ariane 6 and the Vega, are made by other companies and launched from here.
The Guiana Space Centre has many important buildings and launch pads. Some of these include places for launching Vega rockets, Ariane rockets, and even Soyuz rockets. There is also a special tower and a control centre for missions. Being close to the equator and the open sea makes it easier and safer to send rockets into space from this special place.
Some famous rockets and satellites launched from the Guiana Space Centre include the Ariane 4, the James Webb Space Telescope, and many others that help us learn more about space. The centre continues to be a very important place for space exploration.
