Who Was Haman?

Haman was a special helper in a big kingdom called the Persian empire. He worked for a king named Ahasuerus. Haman wanted everyone to treat him very nicely, but not everyone did.

A Special Queen

The king's wife was Queen Esther. She was also Jewish, but she had not told anyone. When Haman made a bad plan about her people, Queen Esther told the king. The king then decided Haman was wrong, and the bad plan was stopped.

Remembering Haman

People remember Haman during a happy holiday called Purim. On this day, families read the story of Esther and make loud noises when Haman’s name is said. They also eat special treats called hamentashen, which look like little pockets, to remember the story.
