Welcome to Indio, California

Indio is a sunny city in Riverside County, California. It sits in the beautiful Coachella Valley in Southern California. Imagine a place where it’s warm most of the year and full of fun events!

A City of Festivals

Indio is known as the “City of Festivals.” That means it has lots of happy gatherings all year. Two big ones are the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Festival. People come from everywhere to enjoy music, art, and exciting activities.

Home and Land

Long ago, the Desert Cahuilla Indians lived in this area. Today, Indio is the biggest city in the Coachella Valley. It’s about 125 miles east of Los Angeles, 23 miles east of Palm Springs, and 98 miles west of Blythe, California.

Warm and Dry

Indio has a warm desert climate. Summers can get very hot, sometimes above 108 °F (42 °C). Even at night, it stays warm. Winters are gentle, with days often between 68–86 °F (20–30 °C). The city gets very little rain, about under 4 inches (101.6 mm) a year, and sunshine shines more than 348 days!

Fun Places to Visit

Indio has many fun spots. You can visit Shields Date Gardens to see date farms. There are also golf courses, parks, and beautiful gardens. The city has many jobs in farming, building, hotels, and shops.

Growing Community

Indio has grown a lot. More families live here, and new schools and homes are being built. The city has two school districts: Desert Sands Unified and Coachella Valley Unified. There is also a community college called the College of the Desert.

Famous Friends

Some famous people lived in or visited Indio. They include Jenna Ortega, a well-known actress, and Merv Griffin, a famous television personality. Indio also has a pilot named Jacqueline Cochran, who did amazing things in the sky.

Friendly Cities

Indio has sister cities to help friendship and trade. These include San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora in Mexico, and cities in the United States like Lynwood, California, Farmington, Minnesota, and American Fork, Utah.

Indio is a wonderful place to visit, with lots of sunshine, fun festivals, and friendly people!
