Jack Kirby
Jack Kirby was a wonderful artist who loved to draw. He was born Jacob Kurtzberg on August 28, 1917, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City. His parents, Rose and Benjamin Kurtzberg, were Austrian-Jewish immigrants. From a young age, Jack loved drawing and was inspired by famous comic strip artists.
Jack started his career in the comics industry in the 1930s, working for different companies and using many names. In 1940, he teamed up with Joe Simon to create the famous superhero Captain America for Timely Comics, which later became Marvel Comics. His drawings made Captain America very popular and loved by many people.
In the 1960s, Jack returned to Marvel and helped create some of the most famous characters ever, like the Fantastic Four, Thor, and the X-Men. His art style was very bold and exciting, making characters come alive on the page. People called him the "superhero of style" because his drawings were so full of energy and fun.
Jack Kirby’s creative work inspired many artists, writers, and filmmakers. His ideas appear in movies, animated series, and even on stamps made by the U.S. Postal Service. He passed away in 1994 in Thousand Oaks, California, but his legacy lives on, and he is remembered as one of the greatest artists in comic book history.
