Kill Devil Hills is a sunny little town in Dare County, North Carolina in the United States. It is the biggest town on the Outer Banks, a special group of islands along the coast. This town is famous because of a very important moment in history.

The First Airplane Flight

Long ago, in 1903, two brothers named Wilbur Wright and Orville Wright came to Kill Devil Hills. They chose this place because the wind there was just right for flying. On a cold day in December, they made the very first flight in a powered airplane called the Wright Flyer. This big moment helped start the age of flying! Today, there is a beautiful spot called the Wright Brothers National Memorial to remember this amazing achievement.

Kill Devil Hills has warm summers and cool winters. The town is close to lovely beaches, where families love to play and relax. You can also visit Sam's Diner, a cozy restaurant that has been around for many years and is very special to the town. Even though the summers can feel hot, cool breezes from the water make it nice.
