The Kingdom of Naples

The Kingdom of Naples was a special land that ruled part of Italy a long time ago. It started in the year 1282 and lasted until 1816. This kingdom was made from the area south of the Papal States.

People lived in places that are now called Campania, Calabria, Apulia, Basilicata, Abruzzo, Molise, and parts of Lazio. Naples, a big and busy city, was the capital.

Over many years, different families ruled this kingdom. It began after a big change called the War of the Sicilian Vespers. The people in the island of Sicily decided to go with the Crown of Aragon, while the land around Naples stayed with Charles of Anjou.

Later, Joanna II chose Alfonso V of Aragon to be the ruler. He brought Naples into his lands. The kingdom saw many rulers and big changes, but it stayed important for a very long time.

Today, we remember the Kingdom of Naples for its rich history and beautiful places. It was one of the largest and most important Italian states of its time.
