Krak des Chevaliers: A powerful medieval castle in Syria built by the Knights Hospitallers during the Crusades.

The Knights Hospitaller

The Knights Hospitaller were a special group that began a long time ago in the Kingdom of Jerusalem. They started by caring for sick and hurt pilgrims traveling to visit holy places. Their work was very important to many people.

The group began in a hospital built by merchants from Amalfi. After Jerusalem changed hands during the First Crusade, the group grew bigger. A leader of the church gave them special recognition, and they hired knights to protect the land.

When the Holy Land was taken back, the Knights moved to other places like Rhodes and later Malta. They helped protect these islands and the people who lived there. Even today, some groups still follow their traditions, like the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

Today, the ideas of helping and caring that the Knights Hospitaller started are still important all around the world. People remember them for their kindness and for looking after those who needed help.
