Koalas are soft, cuddly animals that live in Australia. They are also called koala bears, but they are not related to bears at all! Koalas have thick fur, big ears, and sweet black noses that make them look like little teddy bears.

Koalas live in trees in the forests of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. They love to climb and spend almost all their time up in the trees. Koalas are very quiet and like to stay hidden away.

These special animals only eat leaves from Eucalyptus trees. Even though these leaves are hard to eat and don’t give them much energy, koalas have strong stomachs that can break them down. Because the leaves don’t give them much energy, koalas sleep up to twenty hours a day! They usually wake up at night to find more leaves to eat.

Koalas are loved all around the world. Their friendly looks make them popular in books, movies, and toys. Many people visit Australia just to see these gentle creatures in the wild or at zoos. Scientists are working hard to keep koalas safe and make sure they have plenty of trees to live in.
